The hard-hitting Brighton based, genre-bending four-piece Ġenn are finally back!
Following the release of their furious debut LP ‘Titty Monster‘ two years ago, the catastrophic events of 2020 have given them more than enough musical & lyrical inspiration.
In snarky post-punk fashion, we’re greeted with a funky bass-line & blaring opening riff to set the mood.
Lyrically, 23rd March deals with fatigue for the world around us, especially Trump, our government’s complete shitshow of protecting us from COVID & not having marginalised voices heard.
As Vocalist Leona Farrugia explains; “The chorus is written in the style of a Maltese expression . . . In Malta, when someone is seen as ‘evil’, there’s a tendency to say that you’re gonna pray for someone’s soul since this particular person needs your prayers to be saved.”
Indeed, it can be easy for us in these times to lose our cool & feel like everything that’s evil is closing in on us. Genn are here to remind us that we can feel powerful, turn the other cheek, & keep on going no matter what. ‘We aint’ gonna stop ’cause you told us’.
Suffice to say we are stoked to hear the rest of ‘Liminal’ when it drops next month on January 21st!
For now, you can listen to ’23rd March’ right here.
