Well this all fucking sucks!
In the last 6 weeks we’ve witnessed our entire world crumble to its knees. Something I don’t think any of us even thought was possible.
For some people this has meant living alone in complete isolation with only screens for a social life, for others it has meant regressing into living with their parents. Many have been furloughed, laid off, martyred into essential workerdom. Those with disabilities who were already drastically under supported are finding it harder to obtain the care they need. We’re seeing fall outs, losing relatives & loved ones & above all – out of nowhere we are living under government imposed lockdown with the most vital of all our basic needs being attacked from every direction – security. We are struggling. We are sectioned off. We are alone.
The good side of this – it’s eradicating capitalism. The bad side of this – it’s eradicating capitalism. We need to eat. & what the fuck do we do now?
Kim Kardashian certainly isn’t going to save us. & the Eaton atrocities ruling our country couldn’t give a fuck. But has that really stopped any of us?
The DIY community traditionally comprises some of those most marginalised in society & it is one that I am so so honoured to be a part of.
Born through the harsh reality that most of us were rejected in some form or some way as we formed our inner kweens – the DIY community is based around caring for one another, supporting one another, lifting each other up & being damn sure that no-one falls through the cracks.
With that in mind we are teaming up with Fish Outta Water Films to talk to our community & champion the way they respond to the constant knockdowns of ‘snowflake’ society (which have only been worsened through the pandemic).
We want to know how this has affected us – you know, the shit stuff – is your mental health in a bin somewhere, did you lose your job, are you struggling to cover the most minor financial expenses, where did it hit you hardest?
But also, the really truly great stuff – has this brought you closer to people in your life, what initiatives have you or your friends launched to help weather the storm, how does live streaming feel, what makes you happy & how do you retain your sense of identity?
We’re asking for as many people as possible to take part in a one to one video hangout to discuss some of this stuff which will be featured in our documentary!!!!
Please please share far & wide as we want this to be really representative. & if you’re up for joining in please user the form below or email firstname.lastname@example.org 💖
Love & solidarity
