I wanted to write something about our mission statement. But no-one really gets to have a mission without a cause. So as nerve wracking as it is to write about this kind of stuff . . . here it is . . .
For years I feel like Iβve been coasted into taking up less space in the world. Whether it be through ill health, abusive relationships, judgemental influences or just purely for identifying as female. Whilst I recognise the extreme privilege that I have, my 20s were not without some pretty huge barriers to entry.
In the workplace no-one took me seriously β because I like pink & refuse to not have a sense of humour. I faced multiple accounts of sexual harassment & an inability to progress within my industry. And as much as I don’t like to say it – in some cases this was due to my gender.
In terms of health I was diagnosed in my mid 20s with M.E. – which would see me bedridden for 2 years & unable to achieve anything for quite some time after that.
Relationship wise – I take responsibility for previously accepting any kind of shit. In the past this lead me to remain in a very unhealthy relationship – which resulted in violence towards me. To add to this, itβs almost impossible to be a woman & not have more than one account of a situation more readily picked up by the #metoo movement β so yeah, that too.
Itβs almost impossible to be a woman & not have more than one account of a situation more readily picked up by the #metoo movement – so yeah, that too.
But throughout all of this I grew stronger. And looking back at those experiences I am grateful for them – because they lead me to become strong, independent, & unwilling to accept anything less than what should rightfully be my place in the world. I want to encourage others to do the same.
Through sheer refusal to let anything that has happened externally to define me, Iβve forged ways of tackling life that have lead me to
π Run my own successful business – when I was told I would never work again
π Re-write my life on my own terms – creating a world by & for myself
π Create a strong & positive future – surrounding myself with the people & things that I love
– sounds alright doesnβt it!
I refused to believe what others told me, I believed in & built trust in myself, I read extensively & introduced positive psych into all aspects of my day. And this is the journey that I hope to share with you all.
In the coming weeks I will be sharing tips on:
π Using positive psych in your daily routine
π Using minimalism to redefine your life & remove negativity from your experience
π Using self care to improve your mental health & overcome or manage long-term illness
I refused to believe what others told me, I believed in & built trust in myself
The aim of these articles will be to positively engage with the self-care & empowerment practices that you can put into place to make yourself feel better – both in the immediate & in the long-term. Or at least what worked for me!
My aim is to help you find & take up your space in the world. And to never stop growing that space or defining who you are & where you’re going. No-one else has that right, & by taking control of your situation (however or whatever that means) – you can stop yourself from being stifled. When life & external influences tried to constrain me – my answer was ‘well fuck that’. I want it to be yours too.
